Rush Hour - Carter and Lee on the Radio

  1. This video was very comical, yet showed a couple different competing discourses. The first one was obvious, there was a cultural discourse. One of the officers was African American, while the other was Asian American. Another competing discourse was their personality; Jackie Chan is very reserved, straight-laced and soft spoken. Chris Tucker on the other hand is very out spoken, bold, and energetic. The loud music made Jackie visibly uncomfortable and is clearly something he is not use to while Chris seems frustrated at Jackie's reserved domineer. This clip is a very good example of competing discourses at work!
